I was able to loosen the hinge pins this past w/e with a large 1/2" allen wrench.......the goal was just to loosen the pins in preperation for the bellows replacement in the spring. I was successful in doing that.

Question is........were they too easy to loosen? I was expecting alot more resistance, like needing to use heat..........

Mine were tough as can be to loosen. I was just at the point of stopping in fear of stripping the head when it broke free. Granted mine likely hadn't been loosened in years and was used in salt water at one point.

Re: Hinge Pin Removal

If the last person that had it apart, didn't use red Loctite as suggested in the book, and didn't tighten it down to 100+ ft. lbs., then they do come loose a bit easier. Especially if they had some grease on them.
I usually forget the Loctite, use grease and torque. Never had one come loose yet.
In salt water, corrosion usually works better than loctite anyway. ;)

I was just getting ready to make a thread asking about how to get the hinge pins loose when I came across this thread. Thanks.

I didnt know what to use so I bought a hinge pin removal tool and it slipped so I was needing a new idea.
