Hello everyone I recently purchased a HiLiner 222 is what the owner had told me and is what the title states, but with a few weeks of searching for information on this vessel I did find out that this Boat is actually a HiLiner Gypsy 222 and went out of business and Boston Whaler bought the rights to the mold. They built a similar boat for a couple years and now I think they just use the hull for their center console boats. I cannot find any other information about the boat and I’m trying to get the boat right, with no where to go and reference the boat I’m stuck it has a mercury inboard outboard which has been painted and I can’t find the serial number to register the boat. I would like to rebuild the motor this winter by the way it’s a 1972 if anyone knows anything or somebody that does know about this boat please help

Lots of information about HiLiner out on the web, particularly THIS site.

Looks like it's a little confusing to some degree because of how volatile the life of the company was. And, that's not really unusual for boat manufacturers of that era. Lots of 'em came and went. But HiLiner wound up changing their company name to HiLiner 222 through the few years that it looks like your boat was made, which probably adds to some confusion too.

You might find a serial number on that boat, but perhaps not. Some had them, and some didn't. If it's a '72 it wouldn't have had a HULL ID Number required, so you'll be stuck working from the paperwork in terms of getting the boat registered.

Are you trying to match styling to old photos, or are you trying to find parts to make it work?

Welcome aboard.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... There oodles of Hiliner 222 runabouts up in the 1000 islands region on the St Lawrence river, quite a cult on both sides of the river,.....

The Gypsy is the same boat as moderator Achris' Bertrum,.... just a different manufacturer at a different timeframe,....

A nice handlin' hull,.....
Which Merc motor, 'n drive,..??
My ex-employer had a Gypsy with an ole 305 Merc/ Alpha 1 in it,.....
I drove down to the south shore just outa NYC to get it for 'im, 'n took a short cruise in it, out to the ocean, 'n back to a launch,...

the 305 is a V8, if you have an in-line 6, you most likely have a 250 cubic inch 165 hp.

Thanks I did go out and check again and it looks like a 165 I’ve been watching YouTube and it looks just like those the previous owner painted the serial number sticker so I’m at a loss on how to register the boat so far I may have to pull the motor to find a stamp somewhere right. I have a tower of power I was rebuilding that I’m going to sell for parts to rebuild this motor

you dont need the serial number tag from the motor. you will need the serial number tag from the boat (inside of transom) and a bill of sale and signed registration.

When renaming a boat you should do the ceremony, in which I’ve seen about ten on the streaming service but cannot find an actual text to print does anyone have the actual ceremony word for word. My second question is underneath the name is the state do you put the state where you are anchored at or home state the boat is registered from.

Today I’m going out and try and siphon out the old gas in the tank, I’ve checked out a bunch of videos and most suggest getting a pump and a couple other items to handle the task unfortunately I won’t be spending extra ends to do this. The plan is to take a couple garden hoses that are laying around that have been cut or that have been replaced due to holes or whatever, I’m going to run one into the tank and over the boat and one through the drain into the tank this one hopefully will be the siphon hose and the other one I’ll use compressed air and hopefully force the siphon process, fingers crossed.

This evening I will start another quick project I found a gaffe in the boat jerry rigged to a hockey stick ugh it’s long and beat up looking but it’s another tool I won’t have to purchase, I have a Shakespeare fishing rod it’s a 13 footer or so two piece that broke at the joint I think some pc7 marine and a fiberglass wrap will do the trick. I’ll post pictures of my work soon.
