Have a merc 230 with Alpha 1 Water pump replaced in June ran great. Mechanic said water tube was cracked but would make the season. Now it gets hot above 3k rpm. Is the water tube, and water hose up to the transom the same thing? Can it be changed without pulling the transom assembly? THanks

Nope:

Water Tube = Copper pipe that routes water from the water pump in the lower unit to the upper unit and bell housing (internal to the outdrive). If this were cracked I would hope that a competent mechanic would instinctively replace it! Replacement consists of splitting the two halves of the outdrive

Water Hose = Routes inbound water from the bell housing to a barbed fitting that in turn passes it through the transom plate to another hose on the inside of the boat. Replacement generally consists of pulling the drive and bell housing but NOT the transom assembly.
