high rpms but low speed now

have 98 5.0L merc I/O since new. ran great end of last boating season. over winter put in the usual winterizer. engine a little sluggish but put in new gas and engine sputters went away, but now my rpms go way above wot and my speed is way down. why now this problem ?. always have had this boat serviced. moved it from fla to n.c. last year now this. what gives ?

Sounds like you may have lost a prop hub. It should be one of the Flo Torque hubs that you can replace yourself.
