recently my fuel injection work load has increased greatly. im pretty happy about it as its very interesting challenging work. one thing i noticed this year working on a 7.4 mpi merc circa 2000 and an sx200 yamaha circa 2000 was the high pressure pumps were identical externally and spec'd in their respective shop manuals to produce the same pressure. in my mind making them the same pump. the merc pump is at least $200 canadian cheaper. its a kenshin(spelling?) pump obviously sold to both companies by the original manufacturer.
anyone else got an opinion?

Re: high pressure fuel pumps

Very possible - Merc bought/licensed much of their FI technology from 3rd parties, could easily be commonly sourced part.

If you have a couple of old pumps that you have replaced maybe you can open them up and look at the internals to be sure.

Same is true on cars and trucks - large suppliers like Bosch, Delphi, etc. make similar parts for OEMs all over the world.
