I have 2, 15hp Hidea motors I've not had a problem. With them, I hear ppl talk down about them but this last summer is proof to me when I've pulled 5 ppl to the docks when their high end motors left them sitting. And seen several ppl trolling back because their high ends. Didn't cut the cheese. It could be me keeping up on maintenance. Yearly winterizing fog and fresh gas but I'm starting to think These motors could be the next big thing if they made them bigger then 60 hp.

Hidea outboards are basically clones of old Yamaha , and I think some Honda motors. If you find the model they cloned, parts will be interchangeable. They will never be the new top, they literally have no R&D, they just copy older motors. This type of thing happens all the time in manufacturing as a model gets older, parts manufacturing is shifted to China, and then they are basically given the blueprint

Before this post I hadn't heard of the company. I went looking to see what they were - from appearances, the cowling is from a Evinrude/Johnson and we all know that they're out of business.

Towing someone in with a certain make/model of motor is irrelevant. Mistakes happen. People run out of gas all the time - I've towed a couple in for that. Others have a new to them boat and may not have the wiring hooked up correctly - towed in a few for that too. It doesn't speak to the relaibility of that particular motor, rather more to the inexperience of the operator.

I honestly wouldn't touch em without an extensive dealer network.

You only towed distressed boaters with the Hidea because it was what you had. It had nothing to do with the cost of your motor or those you assisted

Welcome aboard and thanks for helping fellow boaters.
