Hi all just wanted to say Hi.
I am in the process of restoring my great grandfathers Lone Star, I will probably be asking a question or two in the future.

WELCOME LONESTAR OWNERS!!!

you can find tons of info on glassclassics.com -a glastron site. most LoneStars were built in Grand Praire,TX . I've had mine since 1990 -its a 1957 El Dorado it has a 1994 115 Evinrude and runs like a spotted ape. I replaced the trl with a pontoon trl- the floor and interior a couple times. But i would rather cruise around the lake than work on it:cool:- I have been saying for atleast 10 years i would re paint! still flaking off. let me know if you need info on her. send me a PM.

Lone*Star Eldorado Restoration Project

Lone*Star Eldorado Restoration Project

Hey there,

I too am in the process of finishing a 2-year long boat restoration project. I am in the stages now of hooking up lighting and a sound system. I wonder if anyone could give me some guidance on what is the best place to turn to to learn more about marine electrical.

The boat I am working on is a 1960 Lone*Star Eldorado

Here is my 1960 Malibu. Fully operational with a 1963 40HP Evinrude Lark V with Selectric Shift. Really a joy on the rivers and lakes for just cruising. Upgraded steering, sound system, seats, wiring etc... I like the aluminum hull. Lightweight and low maintenance. It has been repainted once and could probably use it again, but then again you could say it has a nice "patina". I could answer some of your questions but most of my questions were answered right here. Let's see some pictures now...

I will slide this into the restoration section. Lone Stars were great boats and we are addicted to the aluminum classics :D

Re: Hi to all own a classic Lone Star

i have officially started the rebuild today! transom first. i tore out the old, rotted piece of raw, non pressure treated 2x10 lumber out of the pocket in the transom of the boat and now i am puzzled. how do i get the new wood in the slot? drill out the rivets holding the inner transom supports on the ends( the very corner of the rear of the boat), lay in the new wood and then buck in some new rivets? it has already been molested a lot and i would like to save this old classic. i want to but everything back better than i found it. someone please, instruct me on transom replacement!!!! thanks!
also, how do i build in some more strength in the transom? aluminum kicker brackets to tie in the bottom of the rear to the floor?

Re: Hi to all own a classic Lone Star

My 1965 LoneStar Medallion II had a one-piece, seventeen-ply transom core. Plywood will have greater strength than dimensional lumber of the same thickness. I had to drill out rivets holding the splashwell and one side of the cap to insert a new transom core. For additional strength on the kicker bracket, you might try 3/16inch aluminum 2in.X2in. angle inside the transom under the kicker attachment bolts/nuts. Triangles are always good for support if you can figure out a away to connect everything. I had my LoneStar for 23 years. Good luck with yours!

Re: Hi to all own a classic Lone Star

thank you! i was told that pressure treated lumber was the best way to go if marine was no readily available. as a matter of fact, i was told they were in some circles used as interchangable terms. i was unable to find thin enough PT ply to build up anything but i did find super thin PT that would have been too laborius to be done with my skills. i wanted to aim for 3 layers. this would have been like 6? too much epoxy smearing into my wife's beautiful house off of my boots! i was going to use a few layers of fiberglass. what would you do? all help is helpful.

Spadman welcome to iboats and the great world of Aluminum boats. Dont use PT in an aluminum boat just use regular ( exterior grade ) plywood and seal it with fiberglass and resin.

any spicific thickness to buy? i think i can go to the 2 1/2 neighborhood with the thickness. if i epoxy 2 or 3 layers with a glass wrap, would that help?

Re: Hi to all own a classic Lone Star

tonight i bought a used windshield. i kinda figure the frame is going to be what is kept, but the plexi is ehhhh, ok. it will work for now. the frame is just a tiny bit wide for my boat. i pulled it at the tips and it fit just right! what can i do to make the existing plexi work until i replace it? mount the frame and heat the plexi to relax it? what do i do to replace the plexi when the tie comes for the big finish?

Spadman, you have hijacked Grandv8's thread. You need to start your own thread with your issues. Thanks!

Re: Hi to all own a classic Lone Star

I have a 63 Lonestar medallion. I was wondering if anyone had some specs on this boat? I found the specs to the medallion II and are impressive for weight, however my boat is a few feet longer than the Medallion II. Any help would be appreciated.
