Hi Jerry and all finally up and running out on water run in an had a ski plenty of power on pull out holeshot but seems a little lacking up top end makes about 4800 rpm 34 miles an hour but can’t remember what it was like as been without for two years.only found my problem by luck put timing light back on in desperation wot cranking light on no1 no sign of timing mark mark was 180 round everyone around had gone thru with me books web sites can only assume trigger colours wired wrong swapped out 2 for 1 run like a watch.I have one small problem to overcome now is idle will idle 8 out of 10 times then come out of throttle and not got idle have to restart by setting lever to high idle when doing this doesn’t always start clean ok for me but not got for other drivers less used to boat any ideas on that one please

125 A 19 p prop maybe to big, depends on load.
For skiing you maybe need a 17p or 15 p to have enought of RPM at the prop in the start.
You loose about 200 RPM in every inch of lager pitch of the prop, BUT you got more top speed.
A tach will give you the answer, WOT about 5200 RPM and you have the performance from the engine.

17ft. with a 125= the prop should be a 19 maybe even a 21
From what I remember????, the 17 Capri came with a 85/90 depending on the year? The 85/90 had a 17p.
What year is the boat?

1989 bayliner 170 1989 force 125 did say about 35 and 4800rpm is all it will do and when coming out of throttle doesn’t always idle and the only way to start is use hand throttle
