Hi Kenny
Goat a quick question for ya or anyone else who cares to comment. I plan on buying a spare prop for more speed this spring and need a little advice on what to look at.

Here's the setup-
Sanger outbaord tournament barefoot boat (my avatar) with 200 EFI Merc. Motor is mounted at lowest setting and I will not change that. It would screw up my perfect barefoot wake with my 19 High Five.

I can turn about 5900 without touching the trim (full negative trim). I was using a 21 pitch High Five last summer and could easily turn over 6000 when trimmed up. I got about 60 MPH when alone with that prop.

I'm thinking either a Turbo 22 pitch, or possibly a Laser II or Tempest in a 23 pitch. I would like to maximize speed. I wouldn't be using this new prop for skiing, so hole shot isn't too big of a deal. I think I can turn a 23 and be in my RPM range.

What would you suggest trying?

Re: Hey Walleyehed-another prop question

First of all, all 3 props you're looking at work "best" at the surface....doesn't mean they won't work for your set-up, but some efficiency may be lost.
The high-5 works best "down-under" on sterndrives, and alot of heavier outboard apps, but works good for what you are doing.
If I could get my hands on a Turbo II in a 23....wait, I do have one.....I'd try that.
I don't know if a guy could get lucky enough to find one on ebay or not. The Turbo II has a smaller diameter and a little less blade area, and works well without surfacing.
My Turbos are consistantly faster than anyother props I own...that being said, I believe I would try a Turbo I in the 14-1/4X22...I'd say 23, but the lift of the Turbo is great enough it may cause problems when trimmed to proper RPM with the engine clear down on mounting height.
By the way, your 21 high-5 @ 60 is showing around 7% slip-quite good.
In general, stay away from the 4's and 5's for speed with engine mounted where it is (60 is cookin' though). They tend to work best, speed-wise at high mounting heights.
Before you make a decision, let me do a bit of looking in my data sheets....I'll edit back.

EDIT: OK, let me see if I can get this to make sense...My 23 Turbo turns exact rpm that my 24 Raker turns, but the Turbo is about .5 faster.
I have a LaserII in a 21(most honest 21 by pitch gauge)it turns about 550 RPM more than Turbo 23, but alot slower over-all.
My point here is that the 22 Turbo will pull like most other 23's.
If I were to go with a 23 I would go with a Stiletto before the laserII, and I "think" a 23 Turbo I, is going to have too much bite, but.....I have been wrong before.
BTW, what is the approx weight of your boat???

FWIW - Have ProCraft 210 CC w/225 Merc using 23P 4B Trophy Prop. Will turn 61 GPS at 6k with 3 medium to heavy adults and 50 gal gas. Fair hole shot - going to put on my Torque Shift prop to check out improvements. Really like Trophy Prop - does good job

Re: Hey Walleyehed-another prop question

Thanks guys.

Kenny, I had a Turbo I on my old boat and it was the best prop I ever tried...and I tried a lot of them. I just wasn't sure about it on my Sanger. Thanks for the info. I'll check back later.

14% slip...not real good...

Great hole-shot prop, but a 23 TurboI will walk off and leave it like it's setting still................Yes, I own a 23 Trophy too.
Matter of fact, at a high cruise @ 5000RPM, the 23 Turbo is about 4.5MPH faster in my application. (Deep-V)

Re: Hey Walleyehed-another prop question

OK, sanger, you're really light.....a 23 Turbo may be OK at that weight......I'm about 2000lbs as well, and I can spin a 25 Turbo @ 5400 at 3600ft elevation...I get about 5750 at Texoma....600+ above sea-level.

I'll bet your motor isn't mounted at the top hole either! :p

Seriously, thanks for the info. Hopefully I can find a Turbo on ebay. I'll be watching closely and can hopefully get a decent deal.

Thanks again Kenny!
