Hello all,
I have been review this site for info on replacing my floor in my bass boat. I have read many good articles by some very knowledgeable people. One think I couldn't agree with more is to do it right the 1st time. This has been a very good boat to me and I do plan on keeping it. Plans are to totally restore it. I have just a couple quick questions. I plan on following up with the other post on here but wanted to asked a couple up front questions.

1: I plan on removing the cap to get total access to the floor and bilge. I have already removed the motor. From what I can tell the cap is screwed all around the rub rail and along the inside of the floor of the cap then cover by carpet. Other than mechanicals are there any other things I need to be aware of before trying to seperate these.

2: The other question was about the Gel coat. The boat has quite a bit of oxidation. I was told to wet sand it with 1200 and use a good coat of wax. I don't beleive this will hold up. I would like to re-gel the boat and plan on using a brush and roller. Any comments on what to expect from this. I see a lot of talk about thining but its a 50/50 split on weather to or not.

I'm sure I will have more questions down the road but I am very mechanically inclined and know well ahead this will be a long an tedious project. This boat has treated me very well and fishes great. At the cost of a new one verus the 10k I'm looking at theres a huge difference.

Thanks in Advance

Rick

I would first let everyone in on what the year, make, and model of the project. Pictures always make it much easier for the guys to help as well. But you are in the right pace to get her fixed up. I share the same feeling of appreciation for my boat.

Sorry bout that Its a 1992 Hydra Sport DV200 single console Bass boat with a 96 200 Evinrude on the back.

I did want to bring something else up which I see the main patch or replacement is plywood. My wife works for a Plastics company and she sells a lot of Starboard to marinas for repairs. Anyone out there had dealings with using this. It would seem to be the product of choice I would think if you never want to worry about rot again.

Pics on the way.

The deck(floor) and cap are used to keep the shape of ski boats. I am not sure if this is the same in bass boats but i would assume that is. so if you are removing both the cap and the deck at the same time you will have to either support the sides of the boat or run some all thread across the hull to maintain the rigidity of the hull.

Then before you put the floor in make sure the boat is back to square.
