could be a bad gasket, could be stuck rings. nice thing about it it does not take long to pop a head gasket and inspect the gakset and cyl walls. test the head surface flatness like the pic in the manual as well.

use a hand impact and oxy/acetylene on the t-stat screws. propane usually is not hot enough. if they braek its not hard to drill them and rethread the hole. not for me anyay I do 4 or 5 a week.

Exactly how do you use the heat to get a screw out of the thermostat?

I applied the flame from the torch to the t-stat housing where the screws were, and the heat expanded the metal which makes it easier to release the screw from it's seat.

grab a blue flame wrench and get after it, try not to make the fastener glow. it tends to soften them and then they break easier. I dont use propane cause I have oxy/acetylyne.

Well I was dreding removing ther T-stat but the electric drill with the correct driver worked wonders no issue with scres breaking or anything except the previous idiot glued the gasket to the engine and not the cover.

realgun<br /> use the drill on a saltwater motor and odds are all the screws will break man you fresh water guys are lucky. only lucky thing about saltwater is we dont see old chyslers,force;s scots,elgins red and white mercs and such. its all long corroded away but I did have the oppertunity to work on a friends martin 100 a year or so ago
