Well I gave him some advice and that is now been turned into him calling me four times today. (He still had my phone number from C/l ad). So I offered him a trade. I need someone to finish out the tear up of the rotten floor in my new project boat, so I offered him a trade, he could come out and do my dirty work and I would tune his engine. All of a sudden he found a mechanic.

good job scaring him off. he won't resent you because he made his own decision. Although you may have been worse off if he took your deal and started hacking away at your boat!

I would "pass" on helping him. It may end up turning into a nightmare for you.

I think the operative word here is WILL not MAY turn into a nightmare. You were smart not to get involved. His problems would've become your problems and more problems you don't need!

Its a tuff call, I have a friend who only calls after he has screwed up his computer and i would suspect that could be the same thing.

No good deed goes unpunished. I'd run in the other direction. It's not just that he wasn't as accommodating as you might have liked but like somebody already mentioned: he strikes me like the type who would blame future problems on you.

Ohh... I don't know about that...

I'm sure the guy that does a 3000 RPM neutral drop on his own boat could do a whole heck of allot of damage to the parts of the hull you want to save..
