Hi im no expert when it comes to outboard engines but i have a problem with my 1975 50hp Evinrude outboard engine, i have taken the carbs off as the engine will not run and found that the top carb has no fuel in the bottom cup where the float sits,im getting fuel to the carbs from the fuel line, can someone tell what could be the problem also i put some easy start in through the carbs and through the spark plug holes to see if it would fire and still no luck. I have had the engine running within the last 6 months but it has just been sat since then.Any help would be great.

Re: Help!!!!

No fuel in cup indicates a plugged float valve. Rebuild all the carburetors.

Dont run it like that. That cylinder is getting no fuel OR lubrication.

Re: Help!!!!

Also one carb is fed from the other so make sure there are no blockages there, i would recomend overhauling the carbs and repalcing the fuel lines , yes a blocked carb would not make it run for sure.

Re: Help!!!!

Check with a spark tester to see if you're getting spark to the plugs

Re: Help!!!!

Tried the plugs for a spark by taking 1 out at a time and laid it on the block and they both have a good spark but they are both dry

Re: Help!!!!

i have been looking at the site and other question/answers and found that someone had a starting problem and somebody replied with "check the fuse",so i went to check to see if mine was ok. I found that mine didnt have a fuse it was a piece of wire in its place is this going to cause much of a problem with starting? thanks phil

Re: Help!!!!

The fuse is a safty device, install proper fuse. Remove both plugs and check spark, should jump 7/16 inch and be bright blue with a snap. You will most likely have to rebuild carbs, remove all jets, clean and blow out all passages with compressed air. Make sure high speed jets are clean. Repost with results.
