I have a 1977 johnson 35 and having troble with connecting the wires for the starter. can anyone help? They are different colors and I am a novice boater.
You'll need to describe exactly what you need. Your post seems to say that you have two different color wires that you want to connect to the starter, and we all know that's not what you mean.

What color are these wires? In what area are they.... at the control area.... at the engine? Why are they disconnected in the first place?

You need to be more percise so that we can help.
well now, ive had 50 hp models with 2 different colored wires that went to the starters... i will describe how mine went and maybe it will help you...

red wire( posotive 12 volts) went to small terminal, not the mounting bolt, on the starter , down towards the bottom

black wire( negative ground) is attached to the mounting bolt using it and the block as the ground

hope this helps
I have ignition switch that has hook ups for batery, starter, accessories, and 2m's. I am trying to find out how to hook the wires up to this. the wires are 1 red, 1 black, 1 white, 1 black and white striped, 1 purple wire. I need to know what wires to hook up where on this ignition. The reason I replaced the starter was because a wire was rotted in half. thanks
I went to replace the switch thinking that was my problem, so i bought a new switch and want to be sure i hook the wires up right. it was the battery wire that had rotted in half. wasnt even the ignition. i am new at boating just want to fish. thanks
