Hi all

I could really do with some help as I am new to trailer ownership!!!
I just got hold of an old trailer in pretty good shape apart from needeing a good paint job and tires.
Here is my problem I cannot seem to find the tire size anywhere.........written on the existing tires is P205 60 R13 While I can find 13inch tires I would really like to get new rims as well.
The wheels are a 5 lug fitting and if I cannot find the right size what size would be safe to fit.
If no one can help with that any ideas where I could get hold of reasonably priced repalcement wheels and tires of that size

Much appreciated and look forward to some help with this

Re: Help with wheels/tires

Those tires are passenger vehicle tires, not trailer tires.

What is the capacity if the trailer?

single axle or tandem axle?

This is likely what you will end up with, available everywhere in the USA.

ST175/80D-13" Load Range C

Load Range: C (6-ply)
Max. Capacity: 1360 lbs. each
Overall Diameter: 24.0"
Lug Pattern: 5 Lug on 4.5" Bolt Circle

On your choice of painted or galvanized wheels.

Generally $80-$100 a piece.

Re: Help with wheels/tires

Hi Guys
Thanks for the swift response to my question. Roscoe the trailer is a single axle and a lightweight galvanized and great for my Alnumacraft 12footer
Could I use a 12inch trailer wheel do you think?

Thanks again

Re: Help with wheels/tires

My 15 foot SeaNymph trailer has 4.80 x 12" tires on it. It also has the 5 on 4.5 lug pattern. (same as my old Ford Rangers) These may fit your trailer as well if it doesnt need to sit real high.

There are trailer tire/wheel combos on Ebay in the $60-per range.

Re: Help with wheels/tires

Stop concentrating on what you "think" you can use and actually figure it out. Here's how:

1) Determine the trailer weight (weigh it)
2) Determine the boat weight (check the manufacturers specs).
3) Determine the engine weight (check the manufacturers specs or weigh it)
4) Determine the weight of the stuff you normally carry in the boat (gas, battery, jackets, tackle, & other stuff)
5) Add those figures which gives you the GVW (gross vehicle weight).
6) the tires you use (regardless of wheel size) must be capable of supporting that weight. 2 tires with a load capacity of say 850 pounds each gives a maximum gross load of 1700 pounds.
7) now pick the wheel size you want to use (12 or 13 inch).
8) Now pick the tire size that will provide that capacity. Add a couple hundred pounds of margin for safety. If you can't get the capacity you need with 12 inch, move up to 13 inch wheels and tires.
9) Buy them and go boating. Tire size and load capacity charts are available all over the internet.

Re: Help with wheels/tires

4.80 x 12 and 5.30 x 12 load range B, will both give you over 1500# of capacity.

Load range C will give you a 6 ply tire with 2000# capacity.

Might seem like overkill, but depending on where you drive, the 6 ply might be a more durable tire.

We hit a lot of gravel roads, and the debris and washboard can be brutal.
