Help with water in oil please.

Im getting alot of water in my oil.Its a mercruiser 898 and im dreading a cracked block.Ive got the exhaust and intake manifolds off but havent seen any obvious cause for the problem yet but there are two rusty intake ports.Anyone have any ideas or what to check next.

Pull the spark plugs and turn it over. Check for water coming out of any SP holes.
Any block cracks in a V-8 will usually be just below the piston deck and on the inside of the galley under the intake manifold.

Ayuh,... If ya haven't seen the Cracks in the lifter valley,...
Once ya pull the motor, flip it over, 'n pull the oil pan,...
You'll see the Cracks along the inside of block, opposite the drain plugs..

I took off the last head and on top of two pistons there was water and the intake valves are rusted.Go ahead and pull this engine and check for a crack where Bond-0 suggested?A cracked block can cause water on top of pistons?Or can I have more than one problem here?

Water on top of pistons shouldnt make it into the oil right?

When I had water in the oil last year last year, I never found the true problem, the block, risers and manifolds were ok, I'm suspecting gasket failure cuase thats all I changed (risers) I had water in almost every cylinder and it had slowly leaked past the rings and settled to the bottom of the pan, just enough that when I checked the oil it was Clear golden and not past the full mark but enough to turn the oil to chocolate milk after the repair and starting it. I did a compression check with an average of 180 psi (175 lowest and like 185 the highest) I've got about 75 hours on it since then with zero problem ( I just jinxed myself).

So Ya, oil can get past the rings, but it takes a while. Did you check the oil level after it sat overnight to see how much water was in the pan? It doesn't take much to make a royal mess.

I was hoping for a cracked block, I'm planning a 383 repower but cant get the authorization from the Chief of Naval Appropriations until I have a hard failure.

Here's exactly what happened.I bought the boat off a guy(who possibly conned me).I got it home and decided to service it since it was new to me.When I checked the oil it was really milky so I called the guy back told him the problem....blah blah(useless conversation short).Then I changed the oil and filter three times,started the engine and ran it all three times and no difference,really milky oil,when I pulled the distributor the shaft was coated with thick pure white gunk.So now im stripping it down,so far no cracks just rusty intake ports and valves,water on those two pistons and milky oil and water puddles everywhere else.So after changing the oil three times,I assume the water would not get pass the rings that fast.Im guessing I have more than one problem here.

Or it could just be the old fashioned head gasket.
