I am putting a new floor in a 14 foot flat bottom fiberglass jon. The problem i am having in measuring for the height of the stringers. Im not quite shure how to get an accurate measurement? I read someting ona post about stringlines and such but i dont understand. Another issue i am having is the flex of the hull. Then i try to measure for the height of the stingers the hul has flex to it so it moves up and down so i cannot get an accurate measurement throughout the boat. Shout i put the boat on horses and put weight to it to "sag" the bottom of the boat ortake measurements on the ground? The measure ments of the old stringers are closer when i boat is on the ground but there needs to be no "saggingflex" on the hull right? Also small note, the boat has a "tab that runs the inside peremited of the boat that the old floor sat on this is what i am measuring to. Iv also read to use douglas fur for my stringers has anyone used well dried pt 2x4s with good results. Please help soon

Re: help with stringers

the hull MUST be braces fully before tou add the stringers......if not a "hook" may result....that is the worst thing that can happen.

using a "bunk" system support the hull fiully from underneath.

after this is completed......measure from the hull to the bottom height of the deck in several places. this will give you the height of the stringers.

the hull ext thread has detailed pics of ONE way to accomplish this. there is a index at the front that will tell you the page location of the stringer build portion

i suspect that your stringer height isnt any more than 2 -3 ins.....so douglass fir will work. after you encase the stringer in glass....it will last 20 years or more.

cheers
