All,
This is my first post so thanks in advance for your help.

Lucky me, I get to replace both engines (4.3L) in my 1988 Sea Ray Sundancer because someone (not me!) didn't winterize them correctly. I found a matching pair of motors but the mechanic can't tell me anything about them. The Mercruiser serial numbers are 0K022658 and 0K022659. I know they are newer because they have a serpentine belt and the one piece manifolds. I'd like to know what year they were built but can't seem to find any details. I've searched several sites but can't seem to find anything that will allow me to cross reference the serial number to specific information. Can anyone offer any suggestions about a website I can go to to look up the serial numbers?

Thanks,

Re: Help With Serial number identification

0K022658 & 0K022659
1997 - 262 Magnum EFI (TBI) (Alpha)

These are Vortec Gen+ engines, producing 205hp at the propshaft... They use Thunderbolt V ignition and a throttle body injection system.

Get rid of the one piece manifolds, or you'll be replacing them again....

Thanks for responding so quickly. I appreciate the advice about the one piece manifolds--I thought they would be a "step up." I'll swap out the manifolds on my old engines for the one piece manifolds. Again, thanks!

Thanks, Bond-o. I see your name on multiple threads and respect--and appreciate--your knowledge.

Re: Help With Serial number identification

658 had the stbd exhaust manifold fail in 1999. Merc warr. covered it and the long block that was needed due to the failure. Also both engines had fuel pumps around the same time.

Muc, Thanks so much for the information! I really appreciate it! Where/how did you find those facts? Is there someplace I can go to look up things like that? Thanks, again!

He works at a dealership that is a Mercruiser and Volvo dealership. They have contact with the manufacturers dealer sites that has that info, it is not a public site.
