Help with relay wiring PLEASE!!!!!

Does this look familiar to anyone? At some point in the past the battery's were disconnected and re connected and attention was not paid to these particular connections. My other questions are, what is this relay of some sort intended for, and where do I connect the leads to the proper battery's? Is this for some sort of isolator or voltage limiter? The blue wire comes from the front of the boat. The other three are loose leads. There are two battery's. 1 cranking and 1 deep cycle. Battery's are connected in series. If that matters.

It's not a marine relay, thats for sure. What it goes to is impossible to say. Follow the wires and see what they go to.

If those batteries were connected in series, they would make a single 24 volt battery.

Thanks for a reply and I'd like to say Sorry! Maybe my lack of electrical knowledge has come to the fore front. The Batteries are connected together only through the (-) ground poles. Does that make it series? it's the way they always have been linked. As for following the leads, they go nowhere now. they did go to the batteries. My problem now is I don't know where to put them.

I have seen this info before thanks! Unfortunately reading that is like reading another language. Lol! It just doesn't make sense to me. Any idea what this relay does? I think if I can understand what it's supposed to do I might be able to figure out how to hook it up. Maybe!!!!

Re: Help with relay wiring PLEASE!!!!!

I was going to say it was used to disable an ACR when a 2 station on board charger was used as it runs 12vdc on one side and 110vac on the other. But, the relay for that has a coil operated by 110vac and it breaks the 12v contact. This one has a 12v coil.

Good luck.

red and white wire are joined until the blue wire gets 12vdc. so you have the red and white unhooked from the batteries. so where does the blue wire go to?

It appears as thought the blue wire runs up under the dash then connects to a purple wire. That purple wire connects to the tach which runs back into the ignition/throttle control.

Re: Help with relay wiring PLEASE!!!!!

purple should be the ignition wire so the relay opens when the key is turned on. This sounds like some home made charging system that allows you to charge both batteries with only one charger as it links the batteries but its also a fire hazard because if one battery is low when you turn the key off they will try to ballance via the relay and the wire/relay is to small to handle that plus that means the key would have to remain on when you are trolling so the starting battery does not go flat. i would surgest removing the relay and the wiring as it make no real sense

Funny you should say that. We had been left with a dead crank after using the electric trolling motor. That explains quite a bit. But I gotta say I wasn't expecting the fire hazard warning. Guess I'll either pick up a proper battery switch or proper charging relay. Thanks. I'll def heed your warning.
