I really appreciated the help I got on this forum several years ago when I had a water in the oil problem. Got that solved and all has been well since then. That is untill last Sunday when we went to trailer the boat and the lower unit would not come up. Boat is a 1970 Glaston V164 with a 140 Mercruiser. Had the wife help lift the lower unit and got it locked in the upper position by putting stops on the tubes. I could hear the motor running try to raise the unit. Checked it out after we got home and it appears there is a leak in one of the hoses going to the tubes. I have the hoses on order. Here is my dilema. Is there an easy way to change them out? There are 4 hoses and they go into 2 blocks in the gimble unit (not underneath it). Looks as if it may be possible to remove them but it looks to be a real pain in the you know what. Do I have to remove the lower unit from the boat to change these? I can not find any instructions on this. If anyone here could offer some help or advice it would be deeply apprciated.

Thanks,

Mark

They're not that difficult - but make sure you use the right wrench for tube fittings. A regular open end wrench will probably not work.

Re: Help with power trim hose replacement

I have flare nut wrenches but is it really poible to get them past the outdive and helmet?? to the blocks the hoses connect to. From what I see it looks as if the outdrive has to come off and then helmet?? that has the tilt/swivel piece. Am I wrong? Can this be done without taking these two item off the boat? Thanks for your assistance.

Welcome.

Could you include a picture of the blocks where the hoses go?

It sounds like the 1970 setup is different than say 1973 and newer.

I know my manifold is on the bottom of the gimbal.

1973 120 mercruiser , one started leaking got replacement had to use line wrench.
took like 10 minutes. put line on added oil and good to go. my lines were pointing sideways so they bound uo and pulled apart on turns. I loosened all up and pointed towards transom .
