I am new to the forum, so hello from sunny Dubai.
I have just been given a 17ft general sport boat with a Mariner 40hp ML engine, serial number 6E9 L 359629.
It is a two cylinder, pull start, twist throttle motor.

first question is can anyone advise the year and model number.

2nd question, which is where I need help is, the twist throttle cable linkage where it joins to the engine throttle shaft at the casing has a quick release push and turn fitting. This fitting is connected (externally) to a throttle arm, which in turn is connected to the throttle shaft that protrudes through the engine casing.
The fitting that goes over the throttle shaft at the casing has broken and I cannot connect the throttle arm to it, so I need a part number of the assy (or parts) to be able to order a new one.

Many thanks for any help.

That would be a 1992 model year.
Mariner: 40-55Hp

Can't decipher which part(s) you are after from your description- can you post a pic?

Re: help with old 40hp engine

Hi Guys.

many thanks for the replies.
I found the part on mercruiser parts web site.
It is the throttle shaft. The end of the shaft has a fitting pressed onto it which the external throttle connection bolts too, this has broken off on mine. Need to remove the shaft but getting access to knock out the roll pin retianing it is tight.
The other problem is no one will sell me one as I have an overseas billing address. I have a US shipping address but none of the websites who have the part in stock will allow me to enter a non US billing address.
Will have to work on this after the weekend.
