I have a 2000 johnson 15 hp that runs good idle ,mid range and wide open throttle it runs likw a raped ape. The problem is that upon accelation from idle through mid range its extreamly loud, not so much at Wide OpenThrottle. The sound it make is a low frequency sucking sound ( Like a chevy Quadrajet with air cleaner off). Air silencer box is on and mated up properly to carb.I have noticed a large open space under airbox, was there a seal of some kind to block off that space? Cowl seals are good ,choke lever seal is good, shift lever seal is good. This noise is so irratating, dot know what else to do.

I had an older 25 Evinrude that made a irritating noise. Sort of high pitched. Turned out it was the latch for the cowling that needed one more twist on the wrench to make it go away. It didn't rattle, but just a high pitched sort of humming sound.

Motor mounted a bit too high on the transom, or a mismatch for your transom height?
