Re: Help with MTD tiller machine

When installed you should no be able to see the grove in the seat. the grove should be facing up, as in facing the top of the carb. If the grove is facing down, or out towards you it will leak like a sive.

Also to check the float the only thing you can do it look for pin holes. If any are found you can give the a quick hit with a propane torch and some solder. Also shake the float. If you have a bad float it will have fuel in it and you will be able to hear it when you give it a shake.

THe wire does not matter which side it come out on. only that it is between the float and the tab.

Make sure the needle is perfectly smooth, ANY tiny bits of gunk on the tip, or ANY pitting will cause it to leak.

Finally if all else checks out you can try to adjust the float slightly. To do this remove the float and bent that little tab slightly away from the float. This will cause slightly more pressure on the needle as the float will be sitting lower in the fuel in the bowl.

ok, I miss understood your instructions. I will change that seat now. Everything you said was already done and checked. I appreciate your help greatelly. If I had understood you correct I would be done by know.... BTW, I got tecumseh book. It is great. Im supposed to set up the float at 4.3mm, I set it to 5mm to get that needle to set up with more pressure. We shall see...

Here this may help. Yea i can see how "up" is a bit vague when the carb is turned upside down on the bench.

Re: Help with MTD tiller machine

It is working great! I will try it tomorrow to make sure it is all still working and not a fluke or something. Anyway, put the gasket the right way and it flooded a bit but then it set up. I thad it run a few times. I could see the venturi pulsing gas and it was all well. Then suddenly it starter accelerating as someone is steping in the gas and let go. Look into the carb and the venturi was not pulsing gas, not sure where the gas was comming.
Took the carb appart and found a lot of debris in the bowl. I will have to clean that gas tank. In the mean time, I purged the gas line, cleaned the carb, put it back, put an inline filter which looks horrible as there is not really a place for it to be... but anyway it ran like a dream so I tilled a bit more just to make sure. It ran a good 30 min wiht no problem. I will try it again tomorrow just ot make sure.
I can call this trouble solved, thanks to Tim and splat!
