help with evinrude 1957? 5.5 fuel problem

I'm pretty sure i have a 1957 evinrude 5.5hp- I had it a few years now and it used to run great till I left it on the boat over the winter- now it won't start unless I dump fuel down the carb.... I have an old Johnson 5.5 that is locked up- that I removed the carb and tryed replacing it with no luck- same thing- is there a fuel pump on that motor? any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks Jesse

There is no fuel pump, that is what the pressurized fuel tank is for. Take the carb apart, it is probably varnished shut from old fuel. Use a new carb repair kit.

we just put a fuel pump on my buddies 57 5.5 johnson seahorse that thing runs great 57 lol
