This spring I purchased a 1984 Sea Nymph that had the transom replced by the previous owner. The problem is there is no cap to cover the top of it. It looks like they used silicone caulk spread over the top to keep water from getting it it. The paint is not adhering to the caulk. I would like to remove all of the caulk and put an aluminum cap over it like most boats have. Any ideas how to accomplish this? I have no experience with metalwork. Attached are some pics of the transom. Thanks for the help!

Not a difficult repair. Welcome to iboats.

You can use aluminum angle to cover the top or you can hunt like crazy for aluminum channel to fit.

Silicone is a no no. The sealant on top of that wood should be fiberglass or epoxy or at the least a coating of 3m 5200.

Remove the old caulk with a wire brush on a wheel and re-seal.

Also take a few moments to read about photo posting and sizes in the top 3 threads here ;) http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32
