I have a 1972 2hp evenruide i just purchased. I took the flywheel off and replaced everything . The coil, points and the condensor. I placed the flywheel back on and torqued it to 24lbs. I went to pull start it and the rope will not budge. I tried to turn the prop and would not budge also. I took the cowling back off and tried to turn the flywheel by hand and it wouldnt move. I took the flywheel completely off and was able to rotate everything by turning the prop. Im not sure if something got misaligned or what , but the flywheel goes on and comes off easily by hand. Im not sure if this is right but when i turn the flywheel by hand the whole armature plate moves and when the idle lever reaches stop the flywheel will not turn anymore kind of like its blocked. Im not sure but i figured i should be able to turn the flywheel without the plate moving.

The coil faces are supposed to be lined up with the machined surfaces on the coil mounting bosses on the mag plate. I use a straight edge, like a utility knife blade to check the alignment. If the coils are out to far, then the flywheel will drag on the coils or lock up your motor.

Sweet that fixed it . When i first installed the new parts i couldnt get it to start , so i took everything back off and must have had the coil to far out. I moved it towards the middle as far as i could and its not catching the flywheel anymore. Hopefully i can put everything back together and it will start now. I have another little question about the coil. If the coil is not seated properly will that cause it not to start. It didnt seem like anything was getting any spark when i tried to start it the first time.

Yes, that it could. That is why on the front faces, there is a machined spot that you line them up with. You want them lined up perfectly, to give you the best spark possible. Where it looks like the surface has been machined off, line the coil up with that, using a utility knife blade, leaving absolutely no daylight vision all the way up. Doing this will give you a hot enough spark to knock a bull elephant on his rear. :D
