Help with 85 7.5hp throttle linkage

I am working on a project for bowfishing. I am down to hooking my throttle up and got some questions. I am using a lever to operate throttle from the front of the boat sort of like a bike brake lever. I found the Throttle linkage that controls the throttle of the engine. Seems simple enought to hook to this to operate the throttle. However there is this cam thing that moves the original linkage as you twist the tiller handle(which is being removed. When you turn the tiller it rotates the shaft and in turn moves the cam to operate the throttle linkage. There is some other linkage at the top(what is it) Back to my main question can I hook straight to the throttle linkage in my picture and control the throttle of the engine without having to move that cam or that other linkage at the top of the cam.

That 'cam' that rotates is the timing and is a necessary part of the ignition in order for the engine to make power.

Ignition timing advance is CRITICAL and MUST work along with the throttlel (carb) opening.

You may need to order parts for a throttle cable conversion to properly operat both the throttle and ingnition advance.

Without ignition advance you risk destroying your motor.

Thank you Charlie, I am just going to rework the way I was going to operate the throttle now and connect to the part that hooks to the twist throttle
