Hey guys, I found a power trim setup for my motor and I am unsure if it will fit. The guys who has the power trim for sale lives 5 hours away from me so I can't measure it up. Does anybody have any knowledge of what kind of unit goes on my motor?? My motor is a 1978 Mercury 80hp serial # 2786497. Here are some pictures of the power trim unit and my motor. Thanks for the help guys :)

I'm pretty sure your motor is not a 1978 model. More like a 1970-1972 based on the coloring of the cowls.

As for the PTT unit, it should bolt right up. I did the conversion 2 summers ago on the same motor. Does it come with the three button control panel and harness? What about the pump and reservoir, I don't see it in the photos?

Re: *HELP* Will this power t/t fit on my motor???

When I bought the motor the previous owner gave me an approximate year it was made and I am unfamiliar with these motors. What are the chances that my engine bracketry is either too big or too small for this? I have a few more pics of the power t/t unit. If i buy this motor I am going on a wimb that its going to fit because I am getting a friend to pick it up for me so hopefully it bolts up..... thanks for your help.

Re: *HELP* Will this power t/t fit on my motor???

The components will bolt up fine to your motor. This style PTT system was used on alot of the early Merc 4 cyl and 6 cyl in-lines. The pump assy MUST be the type with 4 hoses and NOT 2 hoses. Can't tell from the photos. Is it being sold as operational or unknown?

If you decide to buy it, you will need to do some minor mods to your motor and drill a few holes in the transom to mount the cyl's.

From your S/N, you have a 1970 Merc 800.

As far as I know it`s operational. The guy said it came off his brothers motor as one unit. He hasn`t used it in years and doesn`t know for sure if it doesn`t leak. What`s the differences between the 2 hose and 4 hose setups......thanks

I think the answer to your question about two hoses vs four is two rams vs one.

There are similar looking units that are used in I/O setups that use only two hoses. Not sure how they are connected. The outboard version uses 4 hoses, two for each cylinder. The two hose version and the four hose version operate at different pressures.
