HELP steering locked up!

Help,<br /><br />Im a firefighter in southern indiana and i went to get my boat ready to take out and everything worked great until i tried to turn the motor. The motor is a 75hp Mercury on an old bass boat. When i tried to turn it the metal rod that goes into the turning piston didn't even budge. Please Help!<br />Don't know what to do? :confused: <br /><br />firefighter2005

You know what to do...<br /><br />You must remove the steering cable ram from the tube. Then you can verify if the cable or thr ram is stuck.<br /><br />If it's the cable, replace it. If it's the ram/tube, then replace both.

FF2005, If you find out it the cable is good and the end is stuck in the tilt tube, spray it with penetrating oil, and use a pipe wrench to rock it back and forth. If it moves you should be able to lube it and eventually loosen it. Use plenty of penetrating oil and get someone to turn the wheel while you rock it with the wrench. When it is free lube it well with Merc's special lube 101 or equivalent.
