We are currently in the process of rebuilding the above named lower unit but are having problems with dismantling the gearbox.
Any help with this or some direction as to where we might find some would be of great help.

TY

What problems are you having? no doubt, gobs of them,if you have never "tooled-up" for one before.
And just like anything else, you gotta have the right tools.
Some of the ones tou'll need ,will look like what that guy used on the hubble repair.
The trick is,

"to find a pipe of the same diameter of the propshaft, and weld two pieces of key stock on one end for my makeshift propshaft nut remover"

And We all can support you this way. Welcome to iboats, Crowie, and we'll be here if you get in a pinch,long-distance,of course.
The biggest piece of advise is, have the service manual at hand for reference. It will pay for itself..I say this to 90% of the new posters here, simply because it is possably the best thing we can do for you long distance,in all honesty. But we are here for tipz and trickz if needed also.

The big internal nut is the first thing to get off. Look on it to see which direction it says for on -off. My 1968 Merc 110 is a left hand thread. Tap it off gently with a flat punch. The bearing carrier is not fastened to the lower end, just a really tight fit. Corrosion, if any would make it a REALLY tight fit. Put the prop nut back on and PULL. Use a hammer and hardwood at your on risk. And please buy a manual.
Good Fishing !!
