Re: HELP RODBOLT

Are you putting the needles in the correct way? I've seen it done wrong many times. Next time you have the carb off, with the float, needle and seat installed, turn the carb upside down and then blow into the fuel inlet. If you can blow through it, it still isn't sealing and you either have it assembled wrong, things are binding, or it still is not clean.

I have tried that and can not blow in the inlet, it has a new needle and seat, but when i install it on the motor and prime the bubble gas runs out of the top two carbs.

thanks

Re: HELP RODBOLT

does it run out when the engine is running? if not then I see no reason to worry about it.I can also make gas run out of mine by squeezing the bulb.(although I have to squeeze pretty hard)I would check it with the motor running,if no leaks, go fishing :)

Re: HELP RODBOLT

either the needle seats are not sealing or the needles are not sealing in the seats. its the only way fuel can flow.best I remember with the single float carbs the fuel inlet is in the carb body. from there the only exit is by way of the needle/seat assy. I cant get my browser to open my parts list tonight so I cant look up the gasket numbers. but if your carbs have replacable seats make sure the seats are the correct ones and the gasket is correct and correctly positioned. if they are non removable clean them with a q-tip soaked in carb cleaner. I have been known to break a q-tip in two and chuck them in a drill.

I cant find any thing wrong with the needle and seats. Think im going to set fire to it cause i cant afford to take it to the shop. They want $75 an hour plus parts to rebuild them. Theres got to be something im missing some where.

thanks

Re: HELP RODBOLT

Let me get this stright, you have fuel comming out when you pump the bulb? You have rebult the carbs, made sure all parts are correct, and made sure you put the needles in correctly, with the proper seats?
I did not see how hard you were priming the carbs with the bulb, or if you have tried to start the thing, so let me make a suggestion. Try applying less pressure on the bulb when priming, that is, prime till just a small amount comes out, then try starting the motor. You can try direct prime with a small spray bottle of fule, but do NOT use ether. If the motor starts, any extra fuel will be burned off in the cylinders. I suspect a small crack at the base of the top carb that is opening with pressure from the bulb, but closes without pressure. You may be able to use pressure air (5 - 8 lbs will do) to find the crack. Just a thought. Learn before you burn.

The primer bubble never attemps to get hard. I thought when u prime the bubble its suppose to get hard before u start the motor.

Re: HELP RODBOLT

see how much you have learned so far? its priceless :) . it may be time for a cooling system tuneup. pump kit, pressure valve pocket cleaning with a new grommet and new t-stats. if its still getting hot it may require dissasembling of the head and the head cover for a manual scraping.
