Re: help removing cap

The outer lip where the rub rail was has been stapled every inch right around the boat. Its going to take forever to get them out if i can get the cap off. It looks like it glassed over on the inside(second pic). Will i just have to remove the splash well and do the transom that way? Do I need to replace the splash well or is the an alternative because the extra 2-3 feet which it takes up would come in handy.

The splash well is important, it helps keep the water from coming in the boat over the transom when your backing the boat down on rough days or any day for that matter. By backing I mean operating the engine in reverse on rough days or launching the boat off the trailer at the ramp on a rough day.

A dremel with a cut off wheel will make a nice small cut to break the cap free from the hull. If it does not come free you have missed something and need look for an area you may have missed. I cut mine free with a angle grinder. Good Luck

Re: help removing cap

Had a better look today. Drilled a couple of small holes through the join between cap and hull. Was able to get a saw through the drilled holes. Will get a metal blade for the jigsaw to cut the staple and joint at the same time. Now the real fun starts. Also will I need to re-glass the cap down again? the cap is stapled at the moment. What alternative can I use?

Re: help removing cap

I was able to cut my staples with a dremel tool and pull them out with a pair of pliers. It's tedious but worked pretty well. Good luck

Mine was riveted together, took about two hours to put it back together after the holes were drilled, wouldn't have taken that long except my cheap rivet gun keep jamming up.
In my case the rub rail on my boat will be riveted over the first set of rivets you see in the picture for a finished product.

max!:)
