Help plumbing in Heater & Shower into Volvo 4.3

Hi All,

I?m a newbie to iboat ? but have been dwelling here a little while since I recently bought a 2005 Glastron GX185 with Volvo 4.3L carby & SX outdrive.

I?m looking to adapt a cabin heater and hot water shower to my raw water cooled motor. Despite having a decent search on here and through the manual, I can?t work out the best place to take off the water for the heater/shower feed or the best place to plumb the heater return back in. I expect to have about 6 metres of heater hose running a lap around the interior, as the core will be placed in the front of the cabin.

I also want to ensure I don?t adversely affect the cooling system (whether by introducing air bubbles, overworking the water pump or significantly reducing water supply), and would like to minimise the use of supplementary pumps.

I was contemplating taking the water from the drain ports of the manifold/s as I figured that?s be the hottest take off point, but I?ve read they have very little pressure in them. An issue is the hotter the water I use, the less chance I have of been able to use an electric pump to pump the water around (most will only cope with 55-60deg C). I?ve read on other thread?s (for different motors) that there may be a decent take off point near the thermostat ? but looking at my motor I can?t find a spare port (mine?s the same as this http://www.superior-boats.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/stingray-larson-aquasport-025.jpg). I figured I could just put in a t-piece, but again, I?m not sure which hose to take off or return in to.

Regarding the cold water take off, I figured I could use the connection point for the fresh water flush (boat never gets used in salt water) and suck water through there with a supplementary pump ? I assume there?s no check valve in there? Or should I take the cold water from just after the water pump using its own pressure (will only in use at idle). I?ve read of others using this method ? but that was with PCM motors.

Any ideas or criticisms welcome!

Thanks.

Ayuh,... Donno about a hot water Shower,...
But, for the cabin heater,...
The Hot comes from the port in the intake manifold, near the T-Stat housing,+ returns to the port on the water circulating pump..

Thanks for that. I've had a skim through the manual and found those ports. I'm assuming that they're either a 1/4 or 1/2" NPT? (I don't have access to the boat at the moment).

Will there be much pressure present on the intake manifold port? I take it the return port you recommend is on the suction side of the circulation pump, so it will assist flow?

Any thoughts on my suggested location for my cold water take off for the shower?

Thanks again!

Ayuh,... I'd suggest an electric pump for That....

Yes, the ports are 1/2" pipe,+ the manifold is at the pressure side, with the waterpump at the low pressure area...
