I have a 1977 235 omc stringer 800, In a Century Raven 270, with an intermittant short in coil wiring harness. I would like to replace harness/ wiring to forward and reverse coils. Is there an easier method to access/replace the wiring, at least through the mid/top sections? any hints or tricks. Also, any gaskets have to be replaced to do this job?
The only problem with the boat is very intermittant "bump/skip/slip" for a split second under medium to heavy loads. A Mech told me broken or bare coil wiring harnss. sound right?

Before you tear into the gear case get a service manual. Also check the shift switch in the control, and make sure you have good clean ground wires. If that 235 shifts in and out of gear at high speed it will fail, usually snaps a shaft.
