about 2 weeks ago i was fishing skinny water and decided or tried to put the boat on plane, instead I got swampped by the shallow sands and the motor started bogging/chokeing, I drove 2-3 mintues before i realized after the motor beeped that the water wasn't flowing out of the pee hole, so i poked it free of debris.. anyways as i made way to deeper water i try to put the boat on plane and did so for a good 5 minutes untill suddenly it just started bogging out with a long beep so i had to ease off the throttle, every time i get pass 3000 rpm it would bog out and beep... today i took the boat out and at 1st when i ran wot it was fine, then as i went to pick up a freind and fill the bait tank up (heavier load) thinking that everything was fine it happen again, I am clueless as to what the problem can be so any help would work..

Re: Help Needed

Scenerio 1 You had debris blocking the intake water passage and when trying to muscle your way to deeper water where not taking in water nessecary to keep the impellor cool and your impellor exploded losing fins needed o pump water causing it to overheat as well as continued runing which may have sent the fins up the water tube into the exhaust plate and creating an intermintent blockage of water produced by the remaining fins.(weak pee stream or none) ACTION drop the LU remove the water pump and check the impellors state. If it,s missing fins find all of them hopefuly, but dobtful they will be all in the waterpump base and intake area. If not flushing may help or dismantle of the power head is eminent! Senerio 2 You probably loaded the water pump with sand that is working it,s way through the ports and cloging here and there. Best thing to start with is remove intake screen in the LU and check for blockage. Next would be take the LU down and try to flush the sand out. Back flush may be reuired. Hopefully you can get it unblocked before it hardens. Next step you don,t really want to know. Report back with findings

Re: Help Needed

Summary of what is above posted.
Long beep is engine overheating. You have a water pump issue.

Re: Help Needed

Well I took the LU off today and sad to say the Pump looks good and the only thing wrong or bad with it was some missing or rotted away gasket piece from the housing. I did the reverse flush and put in a order for a new impeller/kit, I hope this solve my problem but I'm doubting it will and it might be something like you say, I don't want to know.. Yesterday I took the boat out for a run again and drove it around, I ran 3/4 throttle for a good while and no problem but when I ran wot it started beeping, (long beep).. but thanks for the advice i'll keep it updated and see how it goes after I install the new Impeller/kit.

Re: Help Needed

Take a closer look at your water pump and impeller.

With the impeller stuffed into the pump it causes the 'blades' to bend curved, over time, this causes the rubber to take a 'set' and they are not able to spring out into the farther side of the pump, thus reducing pumping efficiency and water flow. While it still moves SOME water and the motor can run fine up to a certain throttle, then the load/heat from the motor is greater than cooling water flow and the motor begins to overheat.

Second, look very closely at the stainless parts of the pump, the 'cup' and lower plate. If you look at the sides of a new impeller you will see a raised 'ring' on each side that circles the hub hole. This sorta O-ring if the side seal, sealing the impeller to the center of the cup and bottom plate. Now look again at the cup and lower plate, see if there is a corresponding 'ring' worn into the metal. If so then it is time for a pump rebuild kit as that groove will not allow the impeller to seal properly, this further reduces pump efficiency and output.

Finally, use a flashlilght and look up into the mid-leg to ensure that the rubber seal on the water transfer tube is in good shape, no chunks missing anywhere as a poor seal here will allow cooling water to puke out into the exhaust, further reducing cooling.

Re: Help Needed

Checked your thermostat ? Scale ? Passages blocked ? T-stat working ?

Re: Help Needed

Guess my assumption was correct. Replace new waterpump housing/impeller and same problem....... so what's the news that I don't want to hear...?

Re: Help Needed

Where all the fins on the last impellor? There are several reasons for it to be still doing this be it T stat not opening fully leaking exhaust base gasket rotted water tube damaged rubber gromets at the base for the water tube Crud or impellor fins blocking or restricting water flow. Leaking exhaust plate gasket. I don,t know if you can change the T stat without removing main covers. That would be where I would start looking. If the removal of the exhaust and or rear covers expose blockage I would clean it out and spray the heck out of the passage ports with a hose to try to clear out the base as so not to have to remove the powerhead if it,s not nessecary. Usually if the obstical made it to the back water cover it usually falls to the bottom and doesn,t cause a problem. What year type and size engine is this by the way. It might help in determining the issue.

Re: Help Needed

Took the T-Stat off and it was clogged with sand thus preventing it from opening and closing and preventing water from going through... Cleand it up and tested the T-stat and it was still working fine... Now i just need to test it out on the water and see if that did the trick and will report back, Thanks Guys you just don't know how thankful I am had it not been for you mighty fine fellas, Beer on me.. :)
