I have an 1988 Mercrusier 140 with an Alpha Gen 1 drive. My problem is that my block is cracked. I have found a donor boat but it looks to be an earlier model than mine. Question is if i replace the engine will the Alpha 1 unit still work.:redface:
i did the same thing mine. the motor in boat was 1987 and the "new motor" was 1983. the 2 mian things that i found differant waswhere the shift linkage mounted on the motor (87 motor was on the rocker cover and new motor was on the manifold) the other issue was about the fly wheel the 83 motor was was bolted on and a differant coupler but we was able to use my fly wheel and coupler on the 834 motdle motor and make it work.....good luck
