Help me with a steering system

So I am set up for stick steering and I really like it, but in my setup it actually takes up the same/more room than a side console would. Boat is a 1648 MonArk Mod V powered by a 1991 25 HP Tohatsu that runs perfectly.

I am going to build a center or side console so I have a few questions I am sure you guys could help me with:

1. How much will this cost?
2. What exactly do I need to set this thing up? Would Teleflex steering work? I have the controls obviously, but what else do I need? Could you point me in the direction via craigslist or another site? Something like this? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0
I have a 65 dollar credit to Cabelas, and I am buying a MonArk steering wheel for 15 bucks, is this all I need? Here is the wheel, is it compatible: http://newjersey.craigslist.org/boa/1669963072.html ?
3. What kind of knowledge do I need to get this running? I have set up the boat for stick steer, not very hard, is it similar?

I posted this on another forum, but I get impatient and figured some here might offer some advice.

Re: Help me with a steering system

Welcome to iBoats.

You need to know this

http://www.go2marine.com/productcenters/teleflex/teleflexCableMeasurements.shtml

Also is the old stick steering operated by a single cable. If so your motor will likely have what is necessary to make the "Wheel Version" work. If not you might have to buy the transom mount for the cable end.

What you have listed on Cabelas and what you bought on Ebay should work fine.
$200.00 - $400.00 oughta get you there. Depends on how fancy you make your console and if you want guages etc.

Good luck. Post some pics so we ALL can see!!!!

Thanks, bud. I have the single stick steer cable, so we are ok there. If I buy that cabelas link, is that all I need aside from the steering wheel? I have the gauges already wired, Id just have to move it to the console if I wanted. I simply need to get the teleflex steering assembly, a wheel, and fab a console, I think. Sound right?

Sounds about right. A pic of your motor and How the existing cable hooks up to it would tell me a lot. But the wheel you bought and the Cabelas cable are compatible. You should also be looking for posts here on iBoats that talk about teleflex installation. Lot's of good info.

Good Luck

It would probably be a terrible idea for me to tell you that I got the info on that from one of umOrion's posts and that I just ordered one from that particular place at a fantastic discount and it will be on my porch on Monday :p

Here are the three I have on my computer right now. I know this motor was used with a steering system before I bought it, I am assuming a standard setup. Let me know if you need anything more. I also have attached a pic of the controls.
