I was wondering if you could help me out on my 1989 Vision VIP 1700. OMC Cobra 2.3 liter TKO4
The problem that I have is this. I get out on the lake and after turning the boat off and on approx 5 or 6 times the boat will not shut off, and the only way to shut it off is to pull the coil wire off. Here are a few things that I have done. First I did replace the ignition switch and I still had the problem. Second i put a new Solenoid in how ever when I was connecting the terminals up the boat wanted to start up. I then disconnected the cables and put the old solenoid back in and it would start and shut off for a few times. I am at my whit?s end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds a lot like you have the wrong solenoid on there. You should have 4 terminals. 2 large ones for the battery cable and cable to the starter. Then 2 small terminals one marked S and one I.
If they aren't marked, you have the wrong one.

Don,

I suspected this.
However it ran fine last year with no problems. This issue just started.
So I did go to the boat shop and purchased a new solenoid. So yesterday when we were on the lake the boat worked just fine on the old solenoid for 5 or 6 times, then wham it would not shut off. So I put the new solenoid in and started the boat, however it would not shut off and it sounded like the starter motor stayed on. So I immediately pulled the coil wire off to shut err down.
