I have an inboard that was a basket case. Finally it is ready to fire, but I have no dipstick tube. I bought an after market chrome job. In order to get it to fit in under the exhaust manifold, I had to bend the tube. I used my trusty tubing bender which did a nice job. I noticed that the chrome plate was flaking. So I took the dipstick and shoved it back and forth till no more flaking occured. Then I noticed that on the dipstick it was flaking off do to the sever bending action. Does anyone know if there is a tube and stick assembly made for these tight spaces? Thank. SS

Re: Help Me Find My Dipstick!

They all pretty much are made to bend like that. So many engines have a roller coatser type path . They are made out of spring steel, and should hold-up well to the bending. Just get some sand paper, and sand that pesky plating off. Seeins how this is an after-market stick, you'll have to put your own marks in it. Find the crankcase capacity in the book, and fill it to 1 quart below full. Let it sit for 20 minutes or so,then pull it. Take a file, and score the stick at the oil level. Then, put the other quart in...Wait, then score it for the "FULL" mark.
