I have 2 tanks a 1975 a 1958 both rebuilt with new orings and needles.
i used the 1975 with no prob then hooked up the 1958 and gas went everywhere from tank connection
when i pumped up the bulb. I noticed the difference of the connections. 1975 has hole in side of outlet 1958 has slot. Will i need a different connector for each tank?

The pics are not my tanks but the same.

what you have there are 2 different tanks. The old one is for a 2 hose pressure tank, the new one is a sigle hose tank that is common today. They will not intermingle with each other.

Sorry bonz, gotta disagree. Neither one is for a pressure tank, and both accept the same hose connector.

Now, to answer the question, look at those two little pins that get pushed in when you attach the hose. Notice that one has a small brass washer around it. There is a small o-ring behind that washer. Both tanks have it, but the 1958 version is very tiny. Bottom line is that o-ring needs to be replaced. You get at it by removing the core plug from the backside, then pull the pin & spring out. Then stick a small punch in the brass washer and rock it out. Now you can replace the o-ring. Assemble in reverse order. Use a hammer & screwdriver to stake the brass washer in place. You will need a new core plug.

Nope, there was a transition between 1958 and 1960. In 1958, the only models that came standard with fuel pumps were the Evinrude Lark 35 & Starflite 50 and Johnson Super Seahorse 35 & 50. In 1960 the whole line got pumps (with exception of 3hp with integral tank).

Thanks all for the info. F-R Your dead on. It took me a lot of looking to find out what you already knew about the tanks.
Both the tanks are rebuilt. New Needles, orings, springs, core plugs and floats. And it took a while to get these parts to rebuild them
and a bit of money. But i really dig these tanks with there gas gauges built in. And yes i did figure out my problem. I went and bought
2 new snap hose connectors and have no leaks at all now. Looks like the orings in the old hose connectors was just wore out.
