Don't know what to use but I'm going to try LPS2 maybe 3 .1987 3.0 mercruiser I'm first to leave out all winter since new . Kept running elect. heater every time damp/wet out motor starting to rust a little .
If you boat in saltwater, a quick freshwater wipe down (NOT wash down) will help.
Otherwise, do what Bond-o said.
My engines are 1984 Crusaders. The boat was in saltwater until 2004. I touch 'em up a couple times per year. It's no big deal.
heat & moisture = rust. try putting in a bildge dryer/ chemical water absorber. then if you winterize properly, there is no need for heat. That heat constantly vaporizes the water, then it recondences on the cold block. NIX the heater !!!!
