help!! im new at this

I just bought an 87 rinker V180 with a 3.0 mercruiser in it. i believe it is 140hp but im not sure. I took it out for the first time last night and it sounded like something was rubbing in the motor. perhaps in the outdrive or somthing? i have never had an I/O before so i dont know if it is a uaual noise or what. can any help? I can only hear it when im in gear.<br /><br />Thanks <br />Ryan

Welcome to iboats, Ryan.<br /><br />"Rubbing" could be just that...Rubbing. Check the fan belt and pulleys on the circulation pump,alternator, water pump, and idler pulleys.<br /><br />It may be comming from the u-joints. But you need to narrow it down..For instance, is it in the front of the motor? Rear? outside the transom from the foot?<br />By narrowing it down, we can get a better idea of what to check.
