All- what a great forum. I bought an old boat, 6hp motor, and trailer for $250 without really knowing much about boats at all. I used many other threads here to get the motor running, change impellar, change lower unit oil, grease trailer bushings, etc and tested all of it out on the lake without any issues (had a blast). Amazing what you can learn on here. I have seen other threads like this question, but not exactly. My "new" boat has a data plate, but the right side of it (where the actual numbers are) is worn off and unreadable. I contacted Alumacraft, but they didn't seem sure on what model (and therefore capacity data) I have based on a transom number that is not in a normal format. This site has answered every other question I have had, so I just wanted to take a shot to see if any experts can help confirm Alumacraft's guess noted below. Thank you in advance.
Me: Have an 1980 (says title) Alumacraft 14 foot riveted boat. I do not know the model. Capacity plate is present, but is worn and unreadable. Is there a way to verify capacity data and model? I have transom number: ACB0274HM8OJ. Thank you in advance for the assistance.
Alumacraft: Thank you for contacting Alumacraft customer service. The serial number you have provided appears to be incomplete. Could you please verify the serial number. It should be ACB(another letter) followed by 4 numbers, one letter and three more numbers. Example: ACBV4444B707
Me: Thank you for your response. Serial number ACBO274HM80J verified. I understand the format you asked for and it does not match. Attached are pictures; hopefully you can spot something I am reading wrong. Thank you again
Alumacraft: I believe you have a 14ft Model F7, that was produced in 1981. The Capacity for this model is 765 pounds, the horsepower capacity is 6-25 HP. The approximate weight of this boat is 156 pounds.
Thank you. I appear unable to upload pics, sorry.
