I have a 30hp Johnson and the tag is gone with a little the model number on it. The number on the freeze plug is R815800 but I can’t find anything using that number. Does anyone know how I can find the model number and year?

Welcome to iboats

Post a few pictures, we can then at least determine the year of the Cowl...

Is that a 1957 Herters Boat? It sure looks like the mail order boat.

Hogfan, the "R" indicates it is a replacement powerhead. I'll take a stab at it. Is it red and white with a metal flip-up cowling? If so, it is a 1956 30 hp. Based on the fact that many of those powerheads got replaced under warranty due to water ingestion due to a faulty lower crankshaft seal.

I think I caused some confusion...without meaning to, I've high jacked the post. We are dealing with two different motors here, my 1985 and whatever the original OP stated.

I was only trying to help and caused confusion.

Happy Easter!
