Help! I cannot find wheels for my trailer

I bought a old sea king trailer that was in good shape, except for the tires and wheels. They are cracked and rusted through. I've been searching in vain for months for replacements, but have been unable to find them. The wheel is an integral hub type, with no lugs. 4.80/4.00 - 8

The spindle is 1 1/16 diameter, with the same diameter for both bearings.

I tried these wheels -

which were very close. The 1 1/16 bearings fit the races in these wheels. The problem was the bearing to bearing distance. My spindle is only 2.5 in long, not counting the threads. So I shipped these back.

The trailer is the perfect size for my boat, and the wife is pissed that the trailer has been sitting in the garage for a month unuseable.

I'm going to end up calling a recycling center to haul it away soon, I'd relist it on craigslist but I'd hate to screw over the next guy since these wheels are unfindable.

So I'm asking for help? Anyone know where I can find these wheels?

Thanks in advance.

I would forget about finding a wheel and start trying to match up a set of 4 lug spindles then you could find wheels every day of the week.

You can buy standard spindles and have them welded to the existing axle after the old spindles are cut off, or you can just buy a new axle for the trailer. My local Farm and Fleet carries the spindles and axles. They can order me a complete axle to my specifications or they stock some generic utility axles.

I had a trailer with that type of wheel and couldn't find a replacement wheel after I had a bearing sieze. I had a guy cut off the spindles and weld on ones for standard hubs. Problem solved, I never looked back. My axle was Otaco brand.

Go back to Northern Tool and check out their axles. They are reasonably priced and you should find one that would fit your trailer. That's what I did when I refurbished my trailer. One of my original spindles had a bad rough area and it was cheaper to buy a brand new axle instead of removing the original welded-on spindles, buying new spindles and paying someone to weld them in. For my situation it cost less than $50. You'll probably need some hubs too.

Don'r get spindles welded on, just get a new axle. That way you know your alignment will be correct.
