If you find that it`s the starter, you can take it to a local place that rebuilds starters and probably get it repaired for a fraction of a new one. I do that with alternators and get them fixed for about $25,00. You can tell them to fix only what`s needed.

Thanks for the tip. Actually is the starter, done all the tests, and everything points to that. I found a OMC from a 73 model, used for $40 bucks, I think I will take the chance with this one.

You dielectric greased the ground connections? Isn't that stuff an insulator?

Finally! Got the starter in the mail today, no time to waste, I ran and installed it. Vroooom! The starter is from a '73, and it turns much faster than my old one (when it was working). How coincidences make us get crazy sometimes....Now that I think about it, if my starter wouldn't have been dying when the incident happened, probably I would've been able to restart the engine....
Well thanks for all the help! Now I need to start posting another issue I just found today...oh well....
