Hello all, I just recieved a Chrysler 35 hp outboard model 357HD serial # 4804.
I am having spark issues. I have taken the plug out and do not see a spark with the coil wire connected. I am pretty new to this so any suggestions would be appreciated. After doing some readin I see that this model MIGHT have points that are closed or bad contact. Where are the points/condenser located? I recently purchase 2 new coils and still no spark. Any Help?

Your motor is from 1973. When you test for spark are you grounding the plug? Best way to test spark is to put a screw in the spark plug boot and let it arc to the metal on the motor. If you do not allow for a ground the spark will not happen. Automotive supply places sell spark testers. They are pretty cheap. To get to the points you will have to take the flywheel off.

Thanks for the Info. i did ground the plug as you suggested. NO SPARK. I do however hear a clicking sound that seems like it is coming from the "black" box that has 5 wires/terminals to/from it. The box is located above and to the right of the coils. So far new plugs, new coils....motor turns fine has good compression, fuel is good no spark ...Points?

Hopefully Frank will be along shortly to help you with this. I would suggest going to a big library and see if they have a service manual you can sign out. Troubleshooting an ignition can be pretty time consuming. It could be something as simple as a blown circuit breaker or an ignition switch shorting the coils to ground. Has this motor ever ran for you? Any history from the people you got it from?

Ok, we need to estabilish is this is a magneto ignistion or CD or what.. I can not locate you model number in the online parts diagrams: http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectModels3.asp?type_id=CHRY

I can't upload the wiring diagrams manual to Iboats so you can figure out what type of ignition that uses. You'll need to join the Chryslercrew group on Yahoo
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thechryslercrew/

and the manual is posted in the files section:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thechryslercrew/files/

From those diagrams you should be able to determine the type of ignition and then we can help you diagnose the problems..
