I went to the lake this last weekend and my engine overheated. I have a '90 Mercruiser Alpha1 4.3L inboard/outboard.

I replaced the thermostat and took off the water circulator to make sure it was working. It seemed to be. I do not have water coming out of the prop and water didn't seem to be circulating when I removed the thermostat.

Is there another idea someone has? I'm not a mechanic, so please explain. I'm trying to avoid waiting 4-6 weeks to get the problem fixed.

Thanks.

Re: HELP-Engine Overheating

The fan belt turns the water pump on your engine. It is a stand-alone unit, and the impeller has undoutably failed, provided you have checked the intake for an obstruction. They frequently get blocked by barnacles, mud, jellyfish what have you.
To check this, remove the intake from the water pump. Take a garden hose, and hook it up to the intake hose. It should flow free out of the hull intake.
