Re: help changing impeller, oil, and waxing

Ya it was day time but it looked yellow.

I think you're right about taking it in. Im just wondering what "could" be wrong and how much it "could" cost

I understand what your up against, and if you could do some of the diagnosis we could narrow it down, but without that type of info we are both doing this in the dark. I could be an easy fix but it could also cost quite a bit. The biggest issue for you is to find someone you can trust. Someone that knows what their doing and will not take you for a ride. Boats are expensive hobbies and as the initials state, Bring On Another Thousand (BOAT).

This doesn't help solve the issue and I'm not being flipped, I hope you can find someone which can help.

If your uncle has any questions about the ignition system, and how to test it, I have attached it... Other than that, and making sure he has water running to the pump whenever he tries to run the engine, deal with it as he would any V8 car engine....

Thanks achris for all the help! Is the ignition system different from a vehicle gm 350? My uncles been running the shop for 30 plus years and is an avid fisherman and knows outboards so I trust him, but I won't forget to hook up the fake a lake if he tries to start it :)

The principle is the same, an electronic module controls spark timing and advance, but I included the manual so he could see exactly how it's done by Merc, including the requirement to put the unit in 'base-mode' to set the initial timing.

So i feel like a jack***. Pull it into my uncles shop, he pulls the fuel line going to the carb, has me crank it for a while until it starts spitting a good flow of gas. Now it runs like a champ. I cant figure out why it wouldn't start when i poured gas in or the constant cranking.

Don't know, but if you poured more then just a little you may have flooded it. On the bright side you can go boating :thumb:
