I have a Merc. 350 I/O. My motor kept cutting off every so often and then itdied and had to get jumped out on the water. I though it was my alternator. So i after letting the motor run for a few mins. I took the positive wires off of the battery to see if my alternator was bad. It cut off immediately. Thinking that was my problem..I just put a brand new one on (merc. OEM) thinking it was a simple fix...and no... it cut off again. So im thinking maybe its a wire that goes from the alternator to the battery or starter??? I just dont understand why it not charging my battery?

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Rob

First off, removing the battery cable off of your battery when the engine is running will kill your alternator.

When you have your engine running, measure the battery voltage. Should be in the neighborhood of 14V when the alternator is working properly.

wow guess that was a bad move. Read multiple places that it was a good way to test it....guess not. Welp...I guess i'll just start following each wire and clean the connections and all that good stuff and pray for the best.

check to see if theres a plastic looking block at the starter lug with the orange alt wire connected to it. It`s a 90A fuse link assembly. ,
